Melissa J Tyson was raised in New Jersey, received a Bachelors of Fine Art from the Rhode Island School of Design, and studied abroad in Russia, Mexico, and at the Hochschule Pforzheim Fakultät für Gestaltung in Germany.
She is fueled and inspired by travel and has shown internationally in St. Petersburg, Munich, Hamburg, and Milan, as well as in many US states. Melissa currently works out of her own studio in the reemerging city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she is surrounded by the brick and steel architectural remains of the once-great American steel industry.
This industrial landscape provides a palette of surfaces and colors that have made their way into Melissa’s work.
By combining traditional jewelry techniques and precious materials with textures and objects from her surroundings, Melissa makes one of a kind and limited edition jewelry pieces for people to wear and treasure.
